I had the worst mani/pedi of my life at the JCP Salon at Eastview Mall today. Normally I would not post a negative review, but I want to spare anyone else from making this mistake. First, the facility was in poor repair. The pedicure "throne" was old and broken down; the drain was very poor and the motor in the massage feature runs but only makes the chair vibrate. After I had been seated and had my feet in the water, I noticed that there were small bugs crawling all over the floor in the doorway between the hair salon and the pedicure room. The bugs were only on the floor but it was disturbing. The nail technician was a sweet girl with limited English, which is not unusual for a nail tech and did not bother me. However, what did bother me was that her hands appeared stained orange. It looked like she had henna tattoos previously, or had applied henna to someone else, but her hands were stained orange. After the bugs and the broken down chair, the orange hands really made me question whether this was sanitary. She used a sea salt scrub on my legs and feet and gave a lengthy massage with it, but had dried my legs first, so it was very abrasive and uncomfortable. She rinsed my legs, then applied lotion. I had hoped that the torturous salt massage was intended to soften the callus, but as soon as she put the lotion on, I knew there was not going to be any callus filing. (I'll spare you a photo). She did an adequate job on the cuticles and polish. When I arrived at the salon, I had long overdue gel polish on my finger nails. She wrapped them as I was having the pedicure, but after an hour in the pedicure chair and a very disappointing experience, I told her that I'd like to just have the gel removed and skip the manicure. She took the wraps off and the gel was literally peeling. She said I could go, I told her that I could not walk out like that and that I needed for her to finish removing the gel. She grabbed an orange stick, scraped the peeling parts off and said I was fine to go. I said, that the job was not finished and reluctantly agreed to move to the manicure chair to have the rest of the gel removed. I asked for flip flops.... they did not have any!!! And all I had was wet toes and furry winter boots to put on. I had to walk over the bugs and across the hair salon floor in my bare feet to get the manicure station. Without flipflops, I could not leave the store, so I agreed to a short manicure -- I asked her to finish removing the gel, shape my nails, soften my cuticles and just buff my nails, no polish. She really didn't seem to know what she was doing as she fumbled with the nail file (I have natural nails that are strong and long). I asked for a square shape with rounded edges, which is what I had when I sat down. After she finished shaping and my cuticles, she started with the lotion and did not buff the rest of the gel off. I was so frustrated at this point that I just wanted to get out of the salon, so I did not correct her again. This fiasco cost me $54, which means I cannot go to another salon to have the job done correctly for at least another two weeks. I treat myself to a manicure once every 6-8 weeks. I may do a pedicure 3-4 times/year. If the JCP Salon is going to offer mani/pedi services, they need to invest in staff, clean up the facility, and have the necessary supplies available. This situation was nothing short of infuriating.
