We moved to 275 high st. Victor N.Y. in 1984. Owned by Sheldon, proprietor of the museum, a very nice guy. My wife and I were to get married in Sept. 1986. in the back yard (acroos the street from the museum) The morning of our wedding it rained to beat the band. An outdoor wedding was out. So the lady's went to Shelon and asked if we could use the museum for our wedding, of course Sheldon said sure. The gals ran over, did a quick arrangement of the main floor and the wedding went foreword. The rain of course stopped and the sun came out, but we were the first in history to get married in the museum. We had been through the museum many times before.... never thought we would get married there. Had a guest of the museum vidio the ceremony and mail a copy to us.A really awesome museum and wedding chaple. Thanks Fisher family for the great memory's.
Valentown Hall Musesum is a truly unique historic find in the Finger Lakes. The original Hall was built in 1879 as a commercial shopping center at a busy crossroads where the railroad was to come through. The railroad never came and this unique building now stands as a testament to the architecture of that historic 19th century time. Walking into Valentown you do seem to pass back in time and shopping in a general store. There were household untensils, a baker, a meeting room, a cobbler's bench, a telegraph office, and even a museum with many Civil War artifacts. The building is in need of constant repair and I was pleased to learn that many local citizens are very active in the saving and preserving this historic treasure as part of the Victor Historical Society. I couldn't help smiling thinking how one man's vision--the mall concept--literally evolved into the huge malls of today. In fact, Valentown sits on a hill overlooking EASTVIEW one of the largest and newest malls in the Finger Lakes-- almost like caring for a grandchild and its family. In the crazy hustle and bustle of our lives, take a minute to stop in to Valentown for a visit shop as our grandfathers and grandmothers did and then head across the street to EASTVIEW.
